We arrived in Hanoi to be met with Hanoi's oppressive heat and humidity. As warm as our winter was, it was still quite a shock to leave the relatively dry and mild temperate southern Queensland climate. But that just goes with the territory in Asia, and it doesn't do anything to diminish the pleasure and the adventure of visiting cultures so markedly different to our own, and right in our own backyard. This is something we definitely have over Europe!
Our hotel was situated in the Hoàn Kiếm District, in the Old Quarter and only a block from Hoàn Kiếm Lake. A rest after our overnight flight, and we took Mum out to introduce her to negotiating traffic Hanoi-style. I think we almost turned her pink hair back to white!
